Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon
Mr Bhalla qualified in 2005, and has been in medical practice for 19 years. He is working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon, working exclusively in spinal surgery, covering all aspects of spinal surgery with background training of an Orthopaedic Surgeon. As he is fellowship trained spinal surgeon working in a tertiary referral centre within the NHS, which is also a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for the region; he is well suited to giving expert opinions on a variety of spinal conditions. He has been writing medical reports since 2017.
He is writing around 130-150 reports a year in total at present. Of these around 90-100 are personal Injury reports. Single Joint expert reports are also carried out in small numbers. He is writing around 35 to 40 clinical negligence reports a year with a fairly equal split of claimant and defendant work. He is an accredited expert witness working for and on behalf of :
- NCA – National Crime Agency
- CPS – Criminal Prosecution Service
- MOJ – Ministry of Justice
- GMC – General Medical Council
Medicolegal Background & training
Mr Bhalla has completed the full Medico-legal foundation certificate in Civil law and procedure (CUBS certificate) at Bond Solon Cardiff University, involving formal training in report writing, courtroom skills and cross examination in Civil Law and procedure.
Furthermore, he has a passion for a deeper understanding of medical law, and has passed with merit, a 3 year program, the LLM in the "Legal Aspects of Medical Practice" at Cardiff University with a specialized dissertation in spinal surgery and surgical consent. He is a member of the clinical ethics committee at his base hospital UHNM, and is a lecturer at Keele university, and participates in the teaching of undergraduate students in medical ethics and healthcare law.
He is fully conversant with Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR 35), the Practice Direction (PD35) and the Pre-Action Protocols. If there are any conditions not listed please get in touch. He has also completed the Capsticks Diploma in clinical risk and claims management, which has enabled a stronger understanding of process from the Solicitors perspective.
Court Experience
He has attended court on two occasions. He has also attended coroners’ inquests. He has trial attendance booked for 2024.
