Former Clinical Advisor in Ophthalmology to the Healthcare Commission and Nuffield Hospitals and Registered Expert to Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)

Mr Hakin has provided personal injury and medical negligence medico-legal reports for over twenty years, for organisations such as the General Medical Council, Medical Defence Union, Medical Protection Society, NHS Resolution, and Welsh Health Legal Services on behalf of NHS Trusts in Wales, as well as many solicitors firms and agencies. Instructions to date have been approximately 50% for the Claimant and 50% for the Defendant, with occasional request to act as SJE. He provides approximately 200 reports/year.

Mr Hakin has undertaken formal medico-legal training with Bond Solon, obtaining the Expert Witness Certificate from Bond Solon/Cardiff University in 2003, and is a member of the Expert Witness Institute. He maintains medico-legal CPD with attendance at courses and conferences organized by Bond Solon, the Expert Witness Institute and similar organisations.

Feedback from solicitors for whom he has provided reports are available from the Expert Witness Institute, the UK Register of Expert Witnesses, or on request.

He is able to provide an opinion on most ophthalmological matters, including those relating to cataract surgery, trauma, and eyelid surgery (including cosmetic surgery).

He is available for consultation in London and Taunton and am usually able to see claimant’s within three to four weeks, with a report turnaround time of two weeks.
